Curriculum Announcements: Jump$tart Standards – Blog

As part of NGPF’s commitment to keeping our resources current, we’ve updated the Jump$tart standards for ALL of our high school and high school courses!

This update ensures that our curriculum remains in line with the most up-to-date standards and reflects the latest edition of the National Standards for Personal Financial Education.

1. What has been updated?

In our high school curriculum, we’ve updated all of our teaching guides, unit plans, case studies, and Nearpods to reflect the latest standards. This includes the 9 week course, the semester course, the full year course and the financial algebra course.

We’ve also updated our Middle School Course, including all lesson guides and unit plans. Nearpods are coming!

2. What are the Jump$tart standards?

The National Standards for Personal Financial Education were established by the Jump$tart Coalition and Council for Economic Education (CEE) to establish key personal finance knowledge and skills and to provide a framework for the progress of the curriculum through primary, secondary and secondary school. †

The standards are organized around six themes:

Earn Income Spend Save Invest Manage Credit Risk Management

3. How have Jump$tart standards changed?

You may notice some changes to the new standards, including the removal of Financial Decision Making as its own category of standards.

The standards have also been updated to include “current topics such as behavioral finance, higher education financial planning, identity theft, financial technology, mobile payments, cryptocurrency and alternative financial services” (National Standards for Personal Financial Education).

If you’d like to explore the new standards in more depth, you can read the full report here.
